James Schlechter
James Schlechter is a visual artist living in Lower Manhattan. He uses watercolors, gouache, graphite, oil pastel and ink to express the shapes he sees in architecture, nature and the human form.
His watercolors are distinct for their bold colors and layered pigments giving the semblance of stained glass and influenced by all that is the Art Nouveau movement.
The line expression in his ink scrolls were inspired by and began during his time in Asia and interest in Chinese calligraphy.
Being a consummate doodler, this lifetime creative distraction provides a curious burst of small detail. James’ editor once said these concise ink images reminded him of the spot illustrations in The New Yorker magazine.
Artists Statement: Enjoy the colors.
